Stitches and glitches

Okay, so I haven’t posted much about scrapbooking or cardmaking or anything else lately, but I really have been busy. Just not papercrafts.

Lately I’ve been suffering with a restless mojo…. wanting to do something but not sure what. Now, however, I’ve decided to try quilting. Patchwork and applique. I’ve never done either but I have done a lot of sewing, so with sewing experience and the possibly-misguided idea that a lot of my scrapbooking and art journal skills and supplies could be put to use here, I’ve been trying to teach myself how to get off the ground.

First, I ordered some books from Amazon (as we do): The Quilter’s Bible by Linda Clements and Seams to Me by Anna Maria Horner.

Seams to MeQB

But they seem a little beyond beginners, especially the Quilter’s Bible. So I’ve called around and GONE around to fabric stores, looking for someone to get me started. I’ve been told there are at least half a dozen quilting clubs here but so far the ones I’ve found are full! Apparently there is a huge interest in crafts of all sorts right now: knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, papercrafts, etc. So back I went to the Internet looking for tutorials and YouTube videos. I’ve found a few but haven’t really started doing any quilting yet. I’ve ordered a few (!!) supplies that aren’t here yet, and today I bought some quilting magazines. That’s the way I do things: research it to death, invest in the supplies, then I either jump off and try it or shove it all in a closet.

This time I’m going to try to do something, though. I want to start small: placemats, table runner, pot holders, sofa pillows, wall hangings, tote bags, and so on. I doubt that I’d ever attempt a full size quilt anyway. I don’t have that much patience, time, or room to work in. I’ve found some great ideas on the Internet so I’m really ready to get tucked in once my supplies arrive.

It’s turned cold now and miserable. It gets dark by about 4pm and although it hasn’t actually rained, the air is just damp. I can take the cold better than the short daylight hours. That’s why I’m so restless, I think. Even during the daylight hours, it’s mostly dark and cloudy. Yuk!!!
