Well, don’t get too excited. It’s not human! But my new sewing machine, ordered yesterday and delivered today with free shipping, has arrived. From clicking “Add to Cart” to having the delivery man ring the doorbell took about 20 hours. Wow!!! So since it’s What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday, I’ve got some pics to show.
This is the baby: Brother Innovis 600. More machine than I ever thought I’d want, but hey….. who could know?!
And so now my desk is covered with sewing boxes. I only have a few scraps of fabric so far, but my craft room started out with enough stuff to fit in a shoebox, too. It will soon multiply like rabbits, I’m sure.
A close-up view of my boxes showing all the odds and ends I’ve started collecting.
I’m really impressed with Sewing Machines Direct, the company from which I bought the sewing machine. They got excellent recommendations in the quilting forum and sewing forum. And look what they sent free of charge:
That’s FIFTY (50) large spools of thread and a set of scissors. The thread is polyester and I’m not sure I’ll be able to use it in quilting (usually a cotton-covered polyester is recommended) but I know I’ll use it on other things. My machine also came with extra feet for quilting, a quilting “table” (actually a sort of extension of the machine arm), an optional knee press to use in place of a foot pedal, and lots of other extras. I spent a few frustrating minutes getting it threaded and getting the bobbin wound, but with the help of my magnifying glass (to read the pictures in the manual) and a few blue comments into the air, I did it. It will take a lot of trial and error to get really proficient with such a versatile machine but it will be worth it.
As soon as I post this blog entry, I’ll be experimenting with stitches. Oh, and if anyone wants a perfectly good Brother PS-55, please let me know. It has the manual and accessories and is literally in mint condition. My husband says I should sell it. He’s probably right, but on the other hand I may keep it and use it as my machine-on-the-go to take to crops, workshops, etc.

Looking forward to seeing all your new creations - enjoy the new baby!
Wow, what a marvellous looking new toy! I can't help but sense that we've joined you just as you teeter on the edge of another really slippery slope! Enjoy your stitching and where that machine takes you!
Am sure you'll have lots and lots of fun with your new machine .... enjoy!!
I do so wish I had not read your blog today. I have been so tempted to get a new machine, but then common sense kicks in and I know my little brother has plenty of life in it. And then I read this post and I am tempted again.
enjoy the new toy! i ordered a BABY sewing machine yesterday morning (mostly for paper crafting) because (as i justified to my husband) the big machine is just too hard to get out unless its a big project.... right... i however have to wait until tomorrow to get the little machine... 20 hours from order to delivery is AMAZING! enjoy the new toy and happy crafting!

Wow it's a fab machine!have fun!
Snap!! Guess what I'm showing on my desk today?? That's right, a new sewing machine. It's an early Christmas present off my husband! My last machine was a cheap and cheerful, this one is built to last!! I know what you mean about your stash taking over you life, I'd quite like some built in cupboards to stack all my fabric in :)
Hugs, LLJ #39 xx
I've got one of those too - almost identical except mine is a 350 Special Edition. Love it - have lots of fun playing.
Oooh how exciting! What a thrill getting such a lovely new sewing machine! Mine goes back to my 21st birthday (I'm now 58 lol!) - it's still going strong (wish I could say the same about myself lol lol!!) - it's a Pfaff and built to last.
I'm about to get a new baby too! It's on order - a Black Cat Cougar cutting machine! The learning curve looks pretty steep but I'll get there in the end!
Happy belated WOYWW, Shoshi #61
