Yes, indeed, I’m feeling very ‘crowded’ these days. I want to do some crafting but I spend time doing everything but that!!! Autumn is just around the corner. The leaves are beginning to turn golden, red, and nutmeg brown as they fall from the trees. Today we’re having gales, so it’s cloudy, dark, rainy and cool.
When I step outside I can definitely get a sniff of Autumn (or Fall, as we call it in the U.S.). Now that’s my absolute favourite time of year, probably because in Texas it means cooler weather is around the corner, and unless you live(d) in Texas, you just wouldn’t understand how welcome that cooler weather is! In America, Fall means things come alive: school starts, the huge Texas State Fair kicks off, Halloween, high-school football (that’s American-style, not soccer) gets underway… and that’s almost a religious celebration. If you’re within a few blocks of a school, you can hear the marching bands begin to practice in the football fields. That sound sends my senses into overdrive!
It’s a wonderful time, honestly. This photo is my grandson at the Dallas Arboretum’s ‘Great Pumpkin Festival’ a couple of years ago. Ooh, pumpkin patches make fabby scrapbook layouts.
Here in the U.K., Autumn means shorter days, cooler nights, and rain. The shorter days means I spend more time inside doing crafts, reading, and inevitably my soul begins to want to write again. I guess, like America, I begin to come alive as well. We have gorgeous colourful foliage and – sometimes – quite sunny weather. I took this picture at Sheffield Park in Kent.
Winter is a little more dreary, however. The downside of winter is the long nights and grey, cloudy days without sunshine. Ideally, I’d love to live in the U.S. from about the end of September to the end of January, and the U.K. from February to the middle of September. Maybe when we win the lottery. . .
In the meantime, I’ve decided to forget about the gales, the shorter days, the grey skies, and crack on with doing some crafting. I’ve joined a ‘Postcard Swap’ at UKScrappers. We’re not really making postcards to mail, but 4x6” affirmation cards, using collages and other techniques. As an example, you can look at Kelly Rae Roberts blog where she’s done something similar. Sounds like fun….they’re probably a little like mini-art journal pages. Next time, I hope to have some fun samples to post.
